  1. PTFE

Trade names "Teflon", "Teflon", "Teflon", "Teflon", "4F", etc., PTFE is a perfluoropolymer made by radical polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene. It has a linear molecular structure with a repeating unit of CF2=CF2. It is a crystalline polymer with a melting point of about 631°C and a density of 2.13-2.19g/CC (grams per cubic centimeter). PTFE has excellent chemical resistance, its dielectric constant is 2.1, the loss factor is low, and it is stable in a wide temperature and frequency range. It has good mechanical properties from low temperature to 550V.

PTFE has high impact strength, but its tensile strength, wear resistance and creep resistance are worse than other engineering plastics. Sometimes glass fiber, bronze, carbon and graphite are added to improve its special mechanical properties. Its friction coefficient is lower than almost any other material, and it has a high oxygen index.

PTFE can be made into pellets, coagulated fine powder (0.2 microns) and water dispersion. Granular resins are used for compression molding and plunger extrusion; fine powders can be extruded into thin-walled materials in paste form; dispersions can be used as coatings and impregnating porous materials.

PTFE has a very high melt viscosity, which prevents the use of conventional melt extrusion or molding techniques. The molding and extrusion methods of granular PTFE are similar to those used for powdered metals and ceramics-first compression and then high temperature sintering; the fine powder needs to be mixed with processing auxiliary materials (such as naphtha) to form a paste, and then extruded under high pressure. The thin-walled material is heated again to remove volatile processing aids, and finally sintered.

  2. Polyperfluoroethylene propylene

FEP is a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene.

FEP has a crystal melting point of 580°F and a density of 2.15g/CC (grams per cubic centimeter). It is a soft plastic with lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance than many engineering plastics. It is chemically inert and has a low dielectric constant (2.1) in a wide temperature and frequency range. The material does not ignite and can prevent the spread of flames. It has excellent weather resistance, low friction coefficient, and can be used from low temperature to 392 ℉. The material can be made into granular products for extrusion and molding, used as powder for fluidized bed and electrostatic coating, and can also be made into water dispersion.

Semi-finished products include film, board, rod and single fiber. Its main purpose is to make the inner layer of pipes and chemical equipment, the surface of the drum, and various wires and cables, such as aircraft hook wires, booster cables, alarm cables, flat cables and oil well logging cables. FEP film has been used as a thin coating for solar collectors.
