1. Is PTFE toxic?

So, is polyperfluoroethylene propylene toxic?
All plastics are non-toxic, because plastics are high-molecular materials and will not be absorbed by the body. Sometimes, because the additives that need to be added during processing are toxic, or the reaction is insufficient during synthesis, and small molecules of monomers are released during use, the plastic exhibits toxicity. Polyperfluoroethylene propylene is transparent, no additives are added in the production process, and there is no toxicity.

According to processing needs, polyperfluoroethylene propylene can be divided into three types: pellets, dispersions and paints. Among them, the pellets can be used for molding, extrusion and injection molding according to their melt index; the dispersion is used for dipping and sintering; the paint is used for spraying.
Polyperfluoroethylene propylene has a crystalline melting point of 580F and a density of 2.15g/CC (grams per cubic centimeter). It is a soft plastic with lower tensile strength, wear resistance and creep resistance than many engineering plastics. .
Polyperfluoroethylene is chemically inert and has a low dielectric constant in a wide temperature and frequency range. The material does not ignite and can prevent the spread of flames. It has excellent weather resistance, low friction coefficient, and can be used from low temperature to 392F.
The material semi-finished products include films and plates. Rod and single fiber. Its main purpose is to make the inner layer of pipes and chemical equipment, the surface of the drum, and various wires and cables, such as aircraft hook wires, booster cables, alarm cables, flat cables and oil well logging cables. FEP film has been used as a thin coating for solar collectors.
Second, the production process of FEP tube hose
Most of the FEP hoses are processed by extrusion technology, so the mold plays a pivotal role in this process. The specific material and size of the extrusion die also depend on factors such as conductor type, insulation type, insulation layer thickness, insulation material and foaming degree.
Judging from years of experience in the past, the extrusion die material of FEP hoses must be made of high-temperature and corrosion-resistant Hastelloy) or other similar materials, such as nickel-based alloys, so as to meet the requirements of pipe extrusion processing.
Because the extrusion process of FEP hose is different from that of physical foamed PE pipe, one uses the pressure extrusion method, and the other uses the extrusion tube extrusion method as the main method, so the configuration There is also a big difference in the size of the mold.
From the perspective of the mold stretch ratio, the stretch ratio of the physical foamed PE pipe is 1.05-1.10; while the stretch ratio of the FEP hose is 5-8, the gap between the two is still very large. Therefore, users have been reminded repeatedly that the design of the mold must be adjusted according to the effect of extrusion. If the outer diameter of the insulation is too large, the size of the mold can be reduced; if the outer diameter of the insulation is too small, the size of the mold can be increased.

In addition to the die, the extrusion quality of the FEP hose is also greatly related to the extrusion temperature. Considering that the FEP hose is prone to melt fracture under the action of shearing force during the extrusion process, but with the temperature The increase can be reduced, so it is required to increase the temperature setting of the extruder as much as possible.
However, it should be noted that the extrusion temperature should not be set too high, otherwise it will also cause the FEP hose melt strength to decrease, or even partially decompose, resulting in FEP hose insulation deformation, non-roundness or even wire breakage and other problems. During the extrusion process of FEP hose, the temperature setting should be adjusted according to the comprehensive factors such as mold, material, screw speed, etc. It must not be set arbitrarily.
